AFWC Community Development Corporation was established to provide urgently needed community
services to low-income / minority residents of Comanche and surrounding Counties and to express its
commitment to social responsibility and community development.
The AFWC Community Development Corporation strives to bring the community, businesses, elected
officials, faith based and educational institutions (7 Mountains or Kingdoms) together in order to stimulate
economic, social, and educational development and to foster personal and family growth.  Collectively, we
will be the transformational conduit without regard to race, creed, color, gender or nationality.
AFWC CDC provides a variety of programs and services to Comanche and surrounding counties and to
date, over 900 households have received services from our organization.  
These programs are designed to enrich the everyday lives of the community.  Current local and state
social service statistics support a need for the types of services provided by the AFWC-CDC.  

1. We Are One - Marriage Guidance / Counseling offers a fresh new look at how to work and stay
committed to your marriage in a time of increasing divorce rates and family dislocation. We also offer Pre-
marital classes, and Marriage Relationship classes to address skill development that supports healthy
marital relationships such as Conflict Resolution, Stress Inhibitors, Loving Confrontation, Anger
Management, Relational Life skills, “Physical Communication,” and Dissociation. (All part of the 2001
Governor’s Initiative on Marriage)

2. Operation Endurance - Offers our returning Soldiers (from war) Debriefing and Post Traumatic Stress
syndrome (PTS) Counseling, and Family (Re)-Adjustment Debriefing Sessions (FADS). These services
are offered to the families they are returning to as well.

3. After School Enrichment Program - Provide quality “After-school Care” to include drug awareness,
money management, mentoring and character development for the youth, “Suicide Prevention”-Warning
Signs/Symptoms, how to address this, as well as health and wellness workshops, and after-school
programs. Also provides Cultural Awareness activities, Counseling, Mentoring and Personal Life Skills to
ensure well-rounded academic and personal development; Includes tutoring services and round-trip
transportation; Counsels at risk youth through referrals from law enforcement officials, youth shelter and
parents.

4. Adult Literacy Program - In cooperation with the Comanche County Literacy Council, trained volunteer
staff provides GED instruction and remediation in the areas of reading, mathematics, language skills and
spelling to adults to assist them in sharpening their academic skills and meeting their educational
goals.  Instruction in computer operations is also provided to enhance academic instruction and to
increase marketability and to promote career and personal advancement.

5. Neighbor’s Community Pantry - This program is being offered monthly in this area to improve the
nutritional situation and habits of community residents and decrease hunger among adults and children.
It also aims to improve awareness of and attention to health problems and preventive health measures
and decrease health problems arising among or experienced by community residents. This free service
is provided to the entire community and we give out Clothing/Shoes, Hygiene/Toiletry items, Food
Baskets-Meat and Protein-Breads and Cereals-Canned Fruits and Vegetables- Boxed Foods-and Special
treats for the children. The Corporation also offers back to school supplies and back to school clothes,
etc.  All items are supplied through donations.

6. OK-TEEM - OKlahoma Transition to Education and Employment through Mentoring - A partnership with
the University of Oklahoma’s National Center for Disability Education and Training.  The goal of OK-TEEM
is to create and support mentoring relationships between young people with disabilities in Comanche
and Caddo counties between the ages of 16 - 26, and members of the community.

7. M.C.O.C.D. - More (than) Conquerors Over Chemical Dependency - A community based organization
whose primary mission is combating the stronghold of addictions. Our focus is to:  Identify and arrest the
development of chemical dependency in the early stages.  Enlighten the public of the help that is available
to the chemically dependent and their families.  Replace society’s misconception of chemical
dependency with an understanding of the disease.  Effectively inform youth, which is a crucial element in
preventing and combating chemical dependency.  To employ trained professionals who use a variety of
counseling approaches.  Treatment is based on careful assessment and evaluation of the needs of the
individual and is provided through group and individual counseling and mentoring.

8. JOY - Just Older Youth / (Adult Day / Activity Center) - Conducts a variety of services to assist
homebound, elderly and homeless and other persons in the community who face difficulty in accessing
needed services. Transportation (for dialysis patients, etc) and chore services are also provided for
seniors in need. (Employ temporary labor)

9. Living The Dream - First time home buyers program which incorporates qualified Realtor counseling,
debt elimination, credit counseling, etc. Also Addressed, will be issues and inequities such as low-
income /poverty status and inability to access quality services, predatory lending practices, and wealth
creation and financial management.
Basic education and career development classes that addresses the low status academic attainment
levels found in the community compared to the state at large which would include the following:

“No Limits / No Boundaries” Higher Education Courses, focuses on the need for higher learning in the
geographical area. GED courses, Career placement and counseling, Application and Job preparedness,
Resume classes, Provide career development and employment / training services and professional
advancement opportunities and also Money Management and Parenting Classes.

“Life Skills Learning” is a branch from the “No Limits / No Boundaries” education courses, but is an
advanced approach to Money/Family management.  This course teaches family life skills, and how to
work on-line for stay at home parents. This course will also give directives on sound/accredited home
schooling for parents interested in home schooling their children. This service will also provide an
instructional course on Preparing for Retirement and Bereavement Counseling, and On-line College
courses for Associates and Bachelor Degrees.

“Higher Dimensions” Achievement Center & Computer Lab.  A fully interactive comprehensive computer
lab containing computer stations, manned by a team of highly skilled professionals from area school
districts and universities, private institutions, federal government, media, community, private businesses
and the computer/technology industry.  
This resource would allow low-income / minority community residents to gain access to and explore a
vast array of valuable information, tools and resources while narrowing the gap between those with
access to today’s technology and those denied access to this technology.  Adult computer training
classes are held twice weekly: Tuesdays & Thursdays.
